These extra grooves won’t necessarily make you start pulling the string on the ball, but you could find yourself getting a little more check than you’re used to. As said before, it’s most noticeable when you have a clean look at the ball. These micro-grooves help give a little extra grip for when you need the extra bite on the green. That said, there is one “whistle” I’ve already mentioned – the groove-in-groove technology. What you get is a solid wedge design that’s versatile and reliable. There aren’t a bunch of bells and whistles with crazy technology. “Tried and true” is somewhat cliché but it’s a great way to describe the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedge. The plated finishes, like chrome, will be a little more muted in sound. The raw wedges will tend to have a sharper sound. It’s worth noting that the different finishes may have an impact on the overall sound. ![]() (Trust me, that statement makes sense if you try it.) A clean chip or pitch starts to lean a little more toward a “click” but with a little more breath to it. It’s the combination of the sound from impact and the pop through the turf. On full shots, the Mack Daddy 4 has kind of a “pop” to its sound. ![]() Much like I mentioned in the Feel section, the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 isn’t clicky, but still has a firmness to it for great response. I’m hesitant to use the descriptor “buttery” but the Mack Daddy 4 has an overall smooth feel. There isn’t as much click as the Mack Daddy Forged, but you get great feedback in your hands. In terms of the basic feel characteristics, the Mack Daddy 4 is very responsive and solid. These extra grooves create 84 contact points which should help give you more spin as well. I have to think the major reason for this notable “grip” is the use of micro-grooves in between the bigger grooves of the face. Note: in big fluffy sand and thick rough, you won’t notice this nearly as much as when you’re making cleaner contact. I’m not an exceptional wedge player that gets a ton of bite, but I’ve noticed recent wedge models across the board have felt very “grippy.” With the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedges, it’s like you can feel the face grabbing the ball and spinning it. There’s a new trend I’m noticing across the industry in wedges. Oh! I nearly forgot! The Mack Daddy 4 Tactical wedges also come with a sweet black with green label, Tour Issue, True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft! A perfect touch. I’m pretty proud of these pictures and they don’t do the finish near the justice it deserves. The olive green with the simple black paintfill is perfect. I must admit, the new limited edition Tactical finish is pretty slick. Raw, chrome, matte black, and the new Limited Edition Tactical finish. ![]() As far as finishes, the Mack Daddy 4 comes in four different options. The head shape is a more compact “Tour-proven” profile with a medium topline and crisp leading edge. Overall, the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedge has a familiar look to previous Mack Daddy iterations. With new “groove-in-groove” technology, a new X-grind option, and different finishes – including the Tactical option pictured here – the Mack Daddy 4 is worthy of its name. ![]() Callaway continues their evolution of the Mack Daddy wedge family.
